Over the course of a year, we embarked upon a journey to capture the image of the American Worker. We traveled across all 50 states taking both tiny back roads and eight–lane freeways, stopping in small towns and the largest metropolitan areas, to photograph workers with every type of job imaginable. We wanted to show both the diversity in the workforce and to remind Americans that in a time of division we, together, create our nation’s economy. Our trip was over 152,000 miles long and resulted in a photographic record of 3,000 individual portraits that we hope will serve as a current snapshot of employment in the United States.
